What are your top 3 priorities for the school board or county commission?

“My top 3 priorities are safe school ideas, continue encouraging Bible elective classes in the middle and high schools/ continuing the character education program in the elementary schools, and addressing the need for better classroom management so reading literacy and other academic areas may improve.a”

What is your plan for addressing aging school facilities and providing every student with a safe, modern learning environment?

“There is currently a plan to address aging facilities. Many years ago when the city and county became one system, we inherited buildings that needed a lot of work. We have been playing "catch-up" ever since. We use a tier system where the schools that need the most improvement are addressed first, then the next most needed. Currently Gary Kuehn (pronounced Keen) is the vice-chair of the Board and the chairman of the Facilities Committee. He would be glad to hear from anyone who is concerned and wants to inquire where a certain school is on the list. Check out the internet.”

How can the school board guarantee our schools are continuously adapting to the evolving needs of our students?

“The purpose of the Hamilton County School Board is to hire, evaluate, and if necessary fire by vote the Superintendent, develop and vote on Board Policy for the System, and cooperatively develop a budget yearly which may be approved by The Hamilton County Commission which is the funding body for our school system. The school board is not in a position to directly guarantee anything else. However, we can hire a fabulous Superintendent, Principals, and teacher-leaders who are closest to the children who have a passion and track record of continuously adapting to the evolving needs of students, make policies that address and support this, and make sure that teachers and programs are in place in the budget to keep our students up to speed in this fast paced changing world.”

What is your most unpopular opinion?

“My most unpopular opinion, not particularly in this area of the country, the Buckle of the Bible Belt, but in more liberal-minded places, it would be my commitment to Christ as my Saviour and Lord and living my life by the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God, the Bible.”
